After surviving the bloody clash with Katana Man, Denji drifts once more into his haunting dream—the endless hallway and the closed door that Pochita warns him never to open. Before the meaning can sink in, chaos snaps him back to reality: Power, drunk on the blood she consumed in battle, decks him with a wild uppercut. Makima, unfazed, orders her blood drained and casually pairs Denji with the Shark Fiend, Beam. Annoyed but compliant, Denji goes along—until Makima suggests something unexpected: a date.
What follows is a strange but intimate day of nonstop movies, ending in midnight tears from Makima during a heartfelt scene. For Denji, the sight of her vulnerability feels like proof that even she, the untouchable Makima, has a heart. When she checks his pulse and tells him he does too, Denji is left beaming, convinced that life might actually be brighter.
But life has other plans.
One rainy afternoon, Denji ducks into a phone booth—and that’s when he meets her. Reze. Purple-haired, warm, and teasing. Their connection is instant: a flower from Denji’s mouth, a laugh, and a quiet invitation to the café where she works. Soon, visits turn into late-night conversations, secret school explorations, and stolen moments that feel almost normal. For the first time, Denji tastes what youth could have been—coffee, swimming lessons, even a gentle question from Reze: Would you rather be the town mouse or the country mouse?
Unbeknownst to Denji, Reze is not who she seems. A killer’s shadow follows her, tied to the Typhoon Devil. And when she strangles her would-be assassin with chilling calm, her mask begins to crack.
At the festival, beneath the burst of fireworks, Reze confesses: she loves Denji. She begs him to run away with her. For a moment, it’s everything Denji ever wanted—but his loyalty to Public Safety, to Makima, and to his strange new life, makes him hesitate. His refusal flips the switch. With a smile that fades into violence, Reze pulls the grenade pin from her neck and transforms—the Bomb Devil revealed.
What follows is devastation. Explosives tear through Devil Hunters, Division 2 falls, and Denji is hunted like prey. Yet amid betrayal and carnage, Denji can’t stop wondering: was her affection real? Does she truly care, or was he just another pawn?
The final clash comes in a storm of chains, bombs, and blood. Denji and Reze collide in an explosive dance, their brief tenderness drowned in violence. He defeats her underwater, chaining her in the very place they once swam together, yet even then, his heart still wants her.
In the aftermath, Reze decides—she will meet Denji at the café. But before she can, Makima intercepts her. Cold, calculating, and merciless, Makima ends Reze’s story before it can begin. On the other side of town, Denji waits, bouquet in hand. Hours pass. She never arrives. Heartbroken and confused, Denji eats the flowers in silence as Power storms in, his fragile hope crushed under the weight of Makima’s unseen hand.
The Bomb Girl Arc ends not with fireworks, but with the quiet devastation of what might have been—love stolen before it had the chance to bloom.
The Bomb Girl Arc of Chainsaw Man is more than just explosions and betrayal—it’s a haunting tale of love, loss, and the crushing reality of Denji’s fragile humanity. Reze’s story lingers because it asks the painful question: was she a weapon from the start, or a girl who truly fell in love but too late to escape her fate? Chainsaw Man thrives in that in-between space where tenderness and brutality collide, and this arc is the perfect embodiment of it.
