The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a realm teeming with astonishing phenomena, formidable threats, and figures of immense might. Spanning nearly two decades, the franchise has introduced a pantheon of heroes, antagonists, and cosmic entities whose sheer strength and influence often surpass conventional moral distinctions of good and evil.

With Doctor Doom poised to destabilize the entire shared reality and execute his multiversal campaign in the impending climaxes, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, a crucial look at the strongest individuals encountered to date is paramount.

The God of Stories: Loki

A few years ago, Loki might have been excluded from a ranking of the MCU's most potent forces. However, the events of the Loki Season 2 finale have undeniably secured his status as one of the franchise's most formidable beings.

Following the destruction of the Sacred Loom, the Trickster God found himself alone at the End of Time. In a staggering display of power, Loki gathered the disintegrating branches of the Multiverse and restructured them, creating a stable architecture in the likeness of the Asgardian world tree, Yggdrasil.

Loki has thus transcended his former role, evolving into the God of Stories, whose solitary vigil and immense power maintain the very fabric and safety of the entire Multiverse.

The Silver Surfer (Shalla-Bal)

The introduction of Shalla-Bal, the Silver Surfer, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps immediately established her as a formidable and dangerous cosmic entity.

Wielding the Power Cosmic—an immense energy granted to her by Galactus—the Silver Surfer is capable of feats few others in the universe can match. Her specialized surfboard (which, as Johnny Storm frequently clarifies, is not an organic part of her body) enables her to traverse the cosmos at speeds exceeding the speed of light.

In her brief appearance, she demonstrated her incredible might: effortlessly cruising around Earth and destroying Reed Richards’ complex Space Bridges in mere seconds. Furthermore, the Surfer exhibited mastery over cosmic phenomena, casually surfing along a volatile wormhole and even demonstrating the ability to escape the gravitational pull of a black hole. Not to forget saving Fantastic 4 from Galactus.

Susan Storm: The Invisible Woman

While Sue Storm / Invisible Woman is best known for her defensive capabilities—her invisibility and her protective force fields—her powers carry the potential for devastating offensive application.

This lethal aspect was chillingly implied in a deleted scene where she casually threatened to execute someone by generating a force field inside their skull and expanding it.

Crucially, in her confrontation with the world-devouring entity Galactus, Sue pushed her abilities past their absolute limit. Though the effort resulted in her temporary death, the very fact that she successfully repelled and defeated a being of such magnitude serves as definitive proof: she is not only the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four, but stands among the most potent characters in the entire MCU.

The Sentry (Robert Reynolds)

The film Thunderbolts* contains repeated acknowledgments that Robert "Bob" Reynolds / Sentry is the single most powerful entity on Earth, possessing strength that exceeds the combined might of all the Avengers.

His Sentry persona functions essentially as the MCU's answer to Superman, but his alternate personality, The Void, is a far more devastating and deadly force. The Void is capable of nearly engulfing the entire planet in a horrific darkness, imprisoning its victims within their deepest, most traumatic memories.

Because Bob lacks complete command over his extraordinary abilities, the Sentry represents an unstable power that cannot be deployed without the inherent danger of manifesting a greater catastrophe—a threat that the Thunderbolts may not be able to contain the next time it surfaces.

Dormammu

For a scary villain, Dormammu was really fun to watch : r/marvelstudios

As the sovereign of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu possesses power of such magnitude that he can grant his capabilities to others.

He came perilously close to annexing the entire reality of the MCU, being stopped only by Doctor Strange’s ingenious use of an Infinity Stone. Strange utilized the Eye of Agamotto to imprison Dormammu within an endless time loop, forcing the cosmic entity into a bargain to retreat.

The post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hinted that the stability of the Dark Dimension is currently compromised, suggesting that the stage is being set for Dormammu's inevitable return.

Mephisto

Mephisto's casual dismissal of a figure as formidable as Dormammu provides a clear indication of his incredibly high rank within the cosmic power structure of the MCU.

This ancient demon, who appears to possess the ability to fulfill humanity's most profound desires—even to the extent of defying Death itself and resurrecting individuals—offers only a glimpse into the vastness of his true capabilities.

His pervasive involvement in countless human affairs underscores that he is an ancient evil that is profoundly difficult to defeat or eradicate from the daily existence of the populace.

Galactus: The Devourer of Worlds

Galactus, the infamous devourer of worlds, possesses an existence that predates the current creation itself.

This entity, whose fundamental need is to consume entire planets, embodies a level of cosmic horror akin to Lovecraftian nightmares. His very nature makes him the apex predator among cosmic beings, especially when considering that the powerful Celestials require host planets for their growth.

Galactus's original debut irrevocably altered the landscape of Marvel Comics, and his forthcoming introduction into the MCU is guaranteed to be a profound and transformative event for the franchise.

The Watchers

the word kepler is on the bottom right of the image

The Watchers, first revealed in the series What If...?, are entities who reside outside the standard parameters of time and space, dedicating themselves to observing the vast expanse of the Multiverse.

These beings appear to wield near-omnipotence and command a broad spectrum of cosmic powers, including the startling capability to erase an individual from every existing reality.

Fortunately for all existence, the Watchers operate under a strict, self-imposed vow to simply observe and refrain from interference—a commitment they have, for the most part, managed to uphold.

Franklin Richards

Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) with her child, Franklin Richards, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The son of Reed Richards and Susan Storm—initially a newborn, then seen as a four-year-old in the Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credit scene—Franklin Richards is strongly implied to be the most powerful human in the entire Multiverse.

He was born with such an overwhelming command of the Power Cosmic that even Galactus sought him out, desiring for the child to inherit his role in the universe. Astonishingly, before even being potty-trained, Franklin demonstrated the ability to resurrect his own mother from the dead.

In the source material, Franklin Richards is officially designated as an Omega-level mutant capable of instantaneously reshaping reality. Audiences may witness this phenomenal capability during Avengers: Doomsday, as all signs suggest Doctor Doom intends to exploit the child's immense power for his own purposes.

The Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff)

The Scarlet Witch stands at a critical nexus in the MCU, possessing the potential to either preserve or utterly demolish the Multiverse.

Her command over Chaos Magic appears virtually limitless, granting her the ability to rewrite reality at will. Her only restraints appear to be the extent of her own understanding of her power and the status of her moral compass.

In Avengers: Endgame, the Scarlet Witch would have easily overcome and killed Thanos if he hadn't diverted his full army to stop her. Furthermore, her counterpart in Marvel Zombies was shown to be powerful enough to retain her consciousness and control an entire legion of the undead before fundamentally altering reality itself.

There is little doubt that Wanda Maximoff is not only the strongest Avenger, but also arguably the single greatest threat the heroes must face.

Death

a woman with a skull painted on her face looks very scary

Since all things must eventually perish—even the most powerful gods—the MCU's personification of Death is ranked above virtually every other being.

Played by Aubrey Plaza in Agatha All Along, Death is an inevitable force that can only be momentarily halted or, in Agatha Harkness’s case, perhaps momentarily deceived.

Ultimately, Death will always prevail, and only a single entity within the MCU's established continuity so far holds a rank higher than her.

Eternity

This may contain: a man standing in front of a giant object

As its name suggests, Eternity, who made an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, is the physical embodiment of Eternity itself.

This entity wields the power to reshape reality—a capability that Gorr the God Butcher sought to acquire in order to eradicate all gods from the MCU's existence.

Eternity is the ultimate conceptual being: the beginning, the end, and everything that exists in between. As of now, Eternity stands as the single most powerful entity within the established cosmology of the MCU.

From the trickster Loki stabilizing the Multiverse with his new power, to the sheer, terrifying inevitability of Eternity, the MCU’s cosmic landscape has never been more vibrant—or more dangerous. The imminent multiversal war waged by Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will test these beings like never before, forcing the entire cosmos to choose a side. This is the ultimate power ranking... for now.
