As a forever fan of Wakanda and the MCU, I can’t believe the day has finally come: Wakanda’s world is getting bigger than ever with Eyes of Wakanda, the animated prequel spinning off from Black Panther, the only Marvel franchise ever snubbed by the Academy—and yet ever‑so‑iconic with a Best Picture nomination.
Originally set for August 27, 2025, Disney+ surprised everyone by pushing the premiere up to August 1—a whopping nearly one month earlier! That means all four bite‑sized episodes will be available at once, letting Marvel fans binge the entire saga of Wakanda’s secretive past as one epic adventure.
Showrunner Todd Harris, in an exclusive with Entertainment Weekly, explained his vision: to expand Wakanda beyond the movies. Wakanda is more than a kingdom—it’s a global power with multiple zip codes and secret histories waiting to be uncovered.
This isn't just another tie‑in—it’s an anthology: each episode unfolds in a different era, introducing the Hatut Zaraze, Wakanda’s elite spies aka "Dogs of War," who journey across the world in stealth missions to retrieve stolen vibranium artifacts.
The premiere episode features Noni (voice of Winnie Harlow), a former Dora Milaje warrior turned spy‑candidate, hunting down The Lion, a rogue General voiced by Cress Williams, who absconds with Wakandan tech in ancient Greece. Harris says it draws on Apocalypse Now and Conan themes—what if Wakanda became the Colonel—or Thulsa Doom? Dive in and find out.
Expect surprises—Harris confirmed a surprising appearance by an iteration of Iron Fist—not Danny Rand, but someone unexpected. And, as always, a few Marvel‑level throws you won’t see coming.
Plus: the animation is gorgeously hand‑painted by Axis Animation, inspired by Ernie Barnes and Dean Cornwell—every frame a work of art, channeling Wakanda’s vibe across time.
Fans, mark your calendars: Eyes of Wakanda drops all four episodes on Disney+ on August 1, 2025—this is Wakanda mythology in full bloom, and it’s Phase Six’s first animated entry. A prequel unlike anything Marvel has done before.
Wakanda has always been more than just a place—it's a legacy, a pulse that beats through generations of heroes, warriors, and now, spies.
With Eyes of Wakanda, we finally get to see the untold chapters of this rich and powerful world unfold across time. From ancient secrets to high-stakes missions, this series is for every fan who ever felt inspired by the Black Panther’s roar or dreamed of walking the streets of Birnin Zana.
